Narayanath Sree Mahavishnu Temple is an important temple located in the Thazhekkad region of Thrissur district in Kerala. It is also one of the rarest temples with two shrines surrounded by water throughout the year. The main deities are Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna.
Naranth Bhranthan (Naranath the Mad), the most popular among the siblings of Parayi Petta Panthirukulam, is believed to have established ('prathishta') the Narayanath Sree Mahavishnu Temple. He is believed to have grown up in Naranath Mangalam in Palakkad. The residents of Narayanamangalam illam is believed to have migrated and the illam is now located at Rayaranellur desam. Earlier the temple was known as Narayana Mangalam Mahavishnu temple and later on it was renamed as Narayanath Sree Mahavishnu Temple. The Uraymakar of this temple were the Naduvathra illam in Chalakudy, Kidangazhiyeth illam and the Kodakara kavil desath Padinjare kunnath illam.
Available documents indicate that many of the Narayanath Devaswom properties that existed centuries ago were in the possession of others and had become dilapidated. Subsequently Narayanath Sreemahaavishnu Temple Trust carried out various rejuvenation and developmental activities such as the Purification of the shrines, the Laying of Krishna stone inside temple, the dedication of the deities and the dedication of the Naga devathas. There are few temples of such historical significance and is to be visited atleast once in a life time
Brahmasree Jayaraj potti who is the chief priest of Narayanath Sreemahavishnu temple has been designated as the Chief priest of Sabarimala temple from November 2020. It is a historical moment for the devotees of Narayanath Sreemahavishnu Temple when the Chief Priest of the temple became head priest of Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. Previously he had served as Sabarimala Malikapuram Chief priest during 2005. He will be joining back Narayanath temple as Priest after one year.
Brahmasree Hari Namboothirippad, Vadakkedath Mana, Trichur is the Thanthri of Narayanath Sreemahavishnu Temple.
